Wow! What an incredible Happy Hour last night! Besides lots of good friends, food, fun, and beverages, we were able to present Illinois CancerCare Foundation with the proceeds of our July Leather & Leis River Run event – $8000.00 this year! Huge accolades go to our dedicated Charity Director Laurel Pollentier for planning and coordinating our most successful Leather & Leis event to date. Also big thanks go out to everyone who helped make this event a success by participating in planning meetings, soliciting donations, working shifts at the event, and all the many other details it takes to pull this off. What an amazing team we have!
Looking forward, lots of good things are coming up for the rest of 2016. Next week (September 17) several members are planning to make the trip to Burlington IA to see a house concert with Brent Burns sponsored by the Southeast Iowa Parrot Head Club. Address is 14286 N. Prairie Rd, Burlington IA.
Cost to attend is $20, payable at the door. All proceeds go to the pay the artist. Potluck dinner will begin at 5:00 pm, music at 6:00 pm. Please BYOB and lawn chairs. See YouTube segment on this show below:
On September 24, several of us will participate in the Galesburg Walk to End Alzheimer’s. We will meet at the Lake Storey Pavillion at 8:15am to check in. There will be a ceremony at 8:45 and the walk begins at 9:00 am. Following the walk, we will plan to head out for lunch and beverages (adult or otherwise) in Galesburg. This is always a fun and rewarding event. If you are available to join us on September 24, please do so. If you are not available, please consider sponsoring our team for this important cause. Either way, you can access our team website to walk and/or donate at the below address:

On Sunday October 23, we will be passing out candy to trick-or-treaters at Wildlife Scarey Park from 4-8 pm. Wildlife Prairie Park is a 2,000 acre zoological partk that is home to more than 50 species of animals. It provides conservation, recreation and education to nearly 140,000 visitors annually. Wildlife Scarey Park is one of its biggest revenue sources, so our participation is important. Please plan to join us – and contact Laurel Pollentier if you are able to do so.
Other business – upcoming election. No, I don’t mean that crazy presidential election that we keep hearing about! This is much more important – the CIPHC board of officers for 2017. Look for emails regarding nominations and election procedures in the next few weeks.
On a personal note, I want to again extend my thanks to everyone for your support the past several months during my father’s illness and passing. Thank you for the flowers, cards, and words of encouragement. Thanks to those who attended the visitation, it meant a great deal to our family. And thanks for being so tolerant of a sometimes absentee president, and picking up the slack while I was otherwise occupied. I love you all! The very best friends are Parrot Head Phriends!
Sue Blocker, President
